THE ROSES OF SURREYENGLANDIntroductionGeorge Poulter (deceased), a member of the Bagshot Historical Society, traced my genealogical tree in 1954. At about that time he read an article about the Roses of Kilravock, a revered Scottish clan, and had started to speculate whether or not there could be a possible genealogical connection to John Rose and son Ken whom he often met socially in his local Pub - the Jolly Farmer. Ken Rose now intrigued as to a possibility that his ancestors came from Scotland commissioned George Poulter 'there on the spot' one night to trace the origins of his ancestors. Subsequently George Poulter spent much of his time there-afterwards tracing the Surrey 'Rose' generations hoping to prove a link with the Scottish Clan. Out of his painstaking research was born a huge chart (dated 1954) showing numerous Rose family generations back to 1713 and also a small pink Pamphlet - The Roses of Pirbright and Bagshot of which I have a copy. I can't help wondering what George Poulter would have thought of family tree research today as I have been told that he walked everywhere, from Bagshot to Pirbright, from Frimley to Camberley and from Parish to Parish to access the church and census records what ever the weather. Neither rain, snow, nor a thunderstorm would stop him walking in his quest. No doubt he would have thought the internet a useful tool, but not for him a seat at a computer in a comfortable room. I'm sure he was far healthier than we are today! Due to the internet and email I have been contacted by many people from different parts of the world and also contacted people myself. I doubt I would I have found these people so soon without the Internet or even have found them at all? On the next page you can find some links to their web pages or articles of interest.
